First grade students and parents have a very special PTA event designed just for them. In September, they are invited to attend First Grade Family Reading Night. During this special evening parents and students attend a series of mini group sessions focused on literacy. Parents receive ideas to help their students with reading and first graders get to decorate cloth bookbags, especially made by PTA parents, to use at the First Grade Mini Library. The Hunt staff and PTA look forward to this event as parents and students discover the joy that reading can bring.
Volunteers assist prior to the reading night by ironing cloth and sewing bookbags for our first grade students. On the actual First Grade Reading Night, we provide volunteers to assist with decorating the bookbags and serving snacks. It takes approximately 5 to 10 people to help sew and 5 or 6 to help on the reading night in September. The volunteers who help on the reading night should not be first grade parents as they will be participating in the programs with their children.
