Hunt PTA

First Grade Mini-Library

This project was initiated at Hunt Elementary in 1995 and is now used at schools throughout the district. Funded by a district mini grant and ongoing support from PTA, the First Grade Mini Library provides a source of "beginning to read" books especially selected for first graders. The library is staffed daily by PTA volunteers and students visit the library before school to select a book which is kept in the bookbag decorated at First Grade Reading Night. The children are encouraged to check out a book one morning and they bring it back the next morning and are able to check out yet another book. The books are "just right" for beginning readers and provide an opportunity for parents and children to enjoy each other's company and a special book every single evening.

The volunteers who staff this mini-library are available from 9:00 to 9:45 daily. Some volunteers like to come in once a week, others would like to come in twice a month so it would be ideal to have 15 volunteers to cover this valuable program for our beginning readers!
